The tools were handed over to Maldives Customs under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on Monday. The tools were handed over to aid Maldives Customs to aid in checking the thickness of plastic bags imported to the Maldives as a ban is in effect for plastic bags below 50-micron thickness.
In addition to checking the thickness of plastic – the tools will also aid in recording and maintaining data on plastic bags of various sizes imported to the Maldives. The recorded data will ease keeping track of the sizes of plastic bags that have been cleared inside the Maldives.
