Maldives records half a million tourists in under 3 months

Maldives has recorded over half a million tourist arrivals within the first three months of this year.

Statistics released by Tourism Minister Dr. Abdulla Mausoom shows 500,597 tourists have visited Maldives as of last Sunday, March 26. The figure is significantly higher than the 409,426 tourist arrivals recorded during the same period last year.

Maumoom commented that Maldives is well on track for the 2023 arrivals target – which is 1.8 million tourists.

“Appreciate the contributions and support from tourism industry stakeholders, service providers, kind people of #Maldives and lovely tourists. #TogetherWeCan,” he said.

Maldives has seen 4,000-7,000 arrivals daily on average this March.

The top source market for tourist arrivals so far this year is Russia, with 60,590. The second top source market is India, with 52,734 arrivals, and the third top source market is the United Kingdom, with 45,545 arrivals.

Maldives had celebrated a record 1.7 million tourist arrivals in 2019, before the pandemic hit. Though arrivals plummeted during the pandemic, the numbers had rebounded fast, with 1.68 million arrivals recorded in 2022 – well above the target of 1.6 million.

The island nation has its sights set on breaking the pre-pandemic record this year.
