HDC collects 120 tons of waste from Hulhumale’ in pre-Ramadan cleanup

Housing Development Corporation (HDC) states it has collected 120 tons of waste in a pre-Ramadan cleanup of Hulhumale’ Phase I.

In an interview to SSTV on Wednesday, HDC’s assistant manager Ali Shujau said the ‘Roadha Saafu’ cleanup campaign was held to clear large and bulky waste.

He said that the annual event was held a bit differently this year, with the entire Hulhumale’ cleaned up in zones.

“We cleaned the entire Hulhumale’ and collected 120 tons of waste. But this is just the beginning,” he said.

Shujau said that there are still certain areas that they haven’t cleaned.

“There are still some work we want to do in Phase I. We expect to be able to clean the locations with the assistance of WAMCO in the coming week,” he said.

Shujau also advised Hulhumale’ residents against leaving bulky waste on the streets. He advised residents to throw away such waste through WAMCO.

HDC had also increased the capacity of the temporary mosque in Hulhumale’ Phase II in preparation for Ramadan.

Shujau said the mosque can now accommodate 600 more worshippers.

He said that the capacity of the mosque was increased at the request of Islamic Ministry.
