State Electric Company (STELCO) has brought in a new generator to K. Himmafushi, increasing the electricity generation capacity in the island.
A spokesperson from STELCO told Sun on Tuesday that the 200KW generator set previously used in Himmafushi has been replaced with a new 800KW generator set, increasing the electricity generation capacity to 2,050KW.
According to STELCO, the capacity was increased in light of the expansion of guesthouse tourism in Himmafushi, which is expected to continue to increase electricity consumption in the future.
‘We have been conducting upgrades on the 35 islands STELCO provides its services to, including the greater Male’ area, in order to ensure zero failures. We have sent gensets to a lot of islands to increase capacity,” said the spokesperson.
STELCO said it aims to cater more than the peak load.
