MACL instructs removal of vessels from northeast Hulhule’

Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has instructed the removal of vessels in the northeast side of Hulhule’, which houses the Velana International Airport.

In a circular Sunday, MACL instructed the removal of vessels from the area of the orange buoys installed for piling works for installation of a water fence between Hulhule’ and lagoon area before Thursday.

The company also advised vessels to keep a 20-meter or 65-foot distance from the buoys to north (the Hulhumale’ side) as a safety precaution during piling works.

“Maldives Airports Company Limited will not be held liable for any damages to the vessels that are received within the area,” warned the company.

MACL said that the police will remove any vessels within the vicinity of the buoys starting Friday.

MACL’s spokesperson Shamman Shakir told Sun on Monday that he is unable to provide a specific date on which piling works will begin.

But it will begin within next week, he said.

Shamman said the work will be done within 10 days.

He said that having the vessels in the area is not safe for flights either.
