Two representatives from Parliament Speaker, Maldivian Democratic Party’s (MDP) leader Mohamed Nasheed has also met with Jumhoory Party’s leader Qasim Ibrahim for discussions.
Nasheed, who lost the heated presidential primary of MDP, is working on forming a new wing within the party. He has also repeatedly stated he would not support, MDP’s presidential candidate, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, in the upcoming presidential election.
Two representatives of Nasheed met with Qasim last night at Sun Island resort.
The representatives were former parliamentary representatives of GDh. Atoll Mohamed Rashad Hussain and former parliamentary representative of Madaveli constituency Mohamed Nazim. Sun has learned that the meeting was on political discussions.
However, no further details have been disclosed regarding the meeting.
Incumbent Madaveli MP Hussain Firushan who works alongside Nasheed for the formation of the ‘Fikuregge Dhirun’ wing told Sun that the meeting went very well. However, he said no further details regarding the meeting can be disclosed at the moment.
Two representatives from President Solih also met with Qasim on Saturday night. Details of this meeting had not been disclosed either.
Nasheed’s ‘Fikuregge Dhirun’ is supposed to be a separate political movement within MDP for which he is seeking the support of 50,000 members. He said the wing will decide on which candidate to endorse during this year’s election afterward.
Nasheed was elected to the presidency in 2008 with the backing of a coalition that comprised Qasim.
