Fuvahmulah Court Magistrate Akram suspended without pay for 7 days

Gn. Fuvahmulah Court’s Magistrate Ahmed Akram has been suspended without pay and allowances for seven days.

His suspension comes after it was proven that he had altered the summary judgment of a case he presided over after the judgment was delivered.

JSC, on Thursday, stated that Magistrate Akram altered the summary judgment of a case after it was delivered.

A summary judgment comprised of 10 points in the case was issued to parties involved after the judgment was delivered, which the Prosecutor General’s Office had used while submitting their appeal of the case to the High Court.

JSC said that Fuvahmulah Court had sent High Court a summary judgment which had included more points than the judgment submitted by PG Office to Fuvahmulah Court in their appellate submissions. Therewith, JSC, described the addition of more points to the summary judgment which was not noted by Akram during the sentencing hearing, after the issuance of the summary judgment to the parties involved, as altering the judgment – which is unlawful.

“The alteration of an appellate document submitted by the Prosecutor General’s Office to Gn. Fuvahmulah Magistrate Court, its subsequent submission to the High Court as a document submitted by the office, and omitting to send a document submitted by the Prosecutor General’s Office to the High Court has been proven to have been purposely done to mislead the reality,” JSC said,

Therewith, JSC decided on Wednesday to suspend Magistrate Akram for a period of seven days without pay and allowances.

JSC, on Wednesday, also decided to suspend Criminal Court’s Judge Hassan Saeed with pay and allowances for 14 days.
