President Ibrahim Mohamed, who won the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s presidential primary in late January, will be presented with his presidential ticket on Friday, according to MDP.

President Solih won the election with 61 percent of votes, while Nasheed won 38 percent.
MDP’s deputy chairperson Ibrahim Waheed (Iburey) told Sun the party will hold a function to officially present President Solih with the party’s ticket on Friday night.
MDP has reportedly requested permission from the Male’ City Council to hold the function at the Alimas Carnival. However, it is unclear if they have been issued the permit.
South Henveiru MP Hussain Shameem (Andhun Hussain), who had headed President Solih’s campaign team, tweeted Monday that his constituents were getting ready for the Friday’s function.
Meanwhile Nasheed, though he conceded defeat to President Solih, refuses to back him in the upcoming presidential election. Nasheed said he would make his decision regarding the election based on the opinion of the members of a separate political branch within MDP he is working on forming.
