Maldives National Party (MNP) will bring an end to the need to beg for aid for healthcare services when it comes to power, states the party’s leader, Dhangethi MP Colonel (Retired) Mohamed Nazim.

Nazim made the remark at the opening of an MNP center in K. Guraidhoo on Wednesday.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Nazim said that people need to beg their parliamentary representatives to access Aasandha health insurance services.

He said that people continue to beg to fill prescriptions, and that no administration, past or present, had the right to claim otherwise.

“This hasn’t ended. In Sha Allah, it is MNP that will bring an end to this. We will introduce an insurance card. With the card, people will no longer need to beg. They can access the healthcare services they need, both in Maldives and overseas,” he said.

Noting that Guraidhoo has 23 guesthouses, Nazim said it was it was too low, considering the island’s proximity to Male’ City.

He said that Guraidhoo’s residents cannot generate a good profit without increasing the tourist beds in the island.

Nazim said that MNP’s guesthouse policy is different.

“Our guesthouse policy has some unique aspects. MNP will not issue land to build guesthouses. We will build four-five story guesthouses in designated islands and hand over the keys to the youth,” he said.

Nazim said that one of the chief concerns raised by guesthouse operators in Guraidhoo is the green tax. He said that the MNP is conducting studies to make some positive changes, including ensuring a significant percentage of the green tax to the islands itself.

Nazim said that with the opening of the new party center in Guraidhoo, MNP will expedite is campaign for the upcoming presidential election and efforts to drive up membership numbers.
