Maldivian Democratic Party’s (MDP) leader, former president Mohamed Nasheed has accused of ‘twisting’ the votes in the presidential primary of the main ruling party which was held on Saturday.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, his opponent candidate, leads by a landslide in the results which have been published so far. In this regard, he has secured approximately 60 percent of the total votes.
In a message to MDP National Council’s Whatsapp group, Nasheed alleged that he led most ballot boxes, whereas only a few had landslide differences.
“In many ballot boxes, the number of votes were more than the amount listed on the results sheets,” he said.
Underscoring that some ballot boxes comprised of more votes than the number of eligible voters listed on the results sheets – Nasheed said that such sheets should be deemed invalid.
“Many ballot boxes are invalid,” he stressed.
West Henveiru MP Hassan Latheef who is amongst the leadership of Nasheed’s campaign said that they were reviewing the results sheets. He also said that Nasheed led most ballot boxes.
