Campaigning for MDP presidential primary concludes

Both the candidates contesting in the primary for Maldivian Democratic Party’s (MDP) presidential primary concludes.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and former President Mohamed Nasheed ended their campaign activities on Friday evening after a competitive run.

As a concluding act of his campaign, President Solih held a gathering in the evening at Hulhumale’. Cabinet minister and parliamentarians who are on his side, along with numerous supporters were present for this. 

Meanwhile Nasheed concluded his campaign with a walk held in Mageedhee Magu and Boduthakurufaanu Magu in Male’.

Large crowds followed, expressing their support as the entourage walked along. 

Notably, both campaigns were concluded with a dua, praying for success in the primary.

Over the course of the past weeks, both leaders visited different parts of the country.  

Moreover, the campaign brought to surface the deep divisions within MDP, as party leaders and members alike chose who to stand with. 

This would mark the first instance when a President still in office to be contesting for a primary ticket. 

Voting will take place across the nation on Saturday, January 28. It will commence from 0900 hrs and end by 1700hrs.
