Former President and Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed accusing one another of different things was an ‘ugly’ thing to do.

Speaking during an interview with local channel “Dhivehi Channel”, Nasheed said that although President Ibrahim Mohames Solih said that he could not maintain a coalition, those were not thing to accuse one another of.

“It is an ugly thing to accuse each other of being this kind of person or that kind of person. In my opinion even responding to that is not the right thing to do.”

He added that the work he is doing was clear to the people, and that it will be clear how many’s political advice he seeks.

“The people will know without any confusions that we are among different opinions.”

Noting that he is able to work with differently opinionated leaders, Nasheed said that what he would not do however was carry on political work as if it is a business.

He added that giving assurance that certain posts will be given to certain parties was not the way to work with a coalition.

Despite Nasheed’s strong stance against throwing accusations, he has previously accused President Solih of committing adultery. Moreover, though he maintained there was solid proof of this, he had yet to bring it to light.

Both the presidents are gearing up for MDP’s primary to be held on January 28, where a total of 57,255 members are eligible to vote.

This internal election is proving to be a catalyst further accelerating the divisions within MDP.
