The city council has raised MVR 313,397.90 within 24 hours since it launched its fundraiser to collect funds to renovate mosques in Male’ City ahead of the upcoming holy month of Ramadan.

The ‘Chaalu Miskiy’ fundraiser is set to close Saturday night.

The city council has set up a donation box at the Artificial Beach, and is also accepting donations to its bank account 7730000467623 and via an online portal. The city council asks donators who make online donations to send bank slips to 7265050 via Viber, with the remarks “donation for mosque renovation”.

The city council asked for cooperation from the public, stating that support towards renovation of mosques is of far greater importance than sports and music shows.

The city council has set up stalls at the Artificial Beach to provide information on estimated costs and equipment and resources for renovation of each of the 26 mosques the council plans on renovating.

Donators have the option of choosing specific mosques, according to the city council.

They also have the option of donating equipment instead of money.

City council states that people can continue to donate money and equipment by visiting the city council office even after the fundraiser concludes.
