Maldives has seen more than 11,000 tourists so far this year

More than 11,000 tourists have visited the Maldives so far this year, as per the statistics published by the Tourism Ministry.

The statistics show that in the first two days of 2023, on average, the Maldives has seen upwards of 5,000 tourists daily, with the most tourists visiting from Italy.

The number of tourists from Italy has reached 2,343, with the second most visits coming from Russia, at 1,784, and with India coming in third with 753 tourists. Behind India are England and Germany with the next most tourist visits.

Most of the tourists from these countries, 69 percent to be exact, have stayed in resorts. So far, 41,081 beds have been filled in 168 resorts in 19 atolls of the Maldives.

In January 2022, 131,764 tourists visited the Maldives. Till the same time this year, it is estimated that this figure will be exceeded.

Last year a total of 1,675,294 tourists visited the Maldives. It was an increase of about 300,000 tourists when compared to the year before. With the opening of Japanese and China markets to the tourism industry, the Maldivian economy is expected to see a dramatic lift. The goals set by the government have not been revealed.
