Tree Top Hospital has successfully completed it's first modified radical neck dissection for the removal of cancer.
Commenting on the surgery, lead surgeon Dr Rajesh A. Valand, Consultant E.N.T remarked that this was a complex surgical operation.
“…all the lymph nodes and fibroid fatty tissue were removed along with a tumour.”
Normally, neck dissection is performed to remove cancer that has spread to lymph nodes in the neck. Structures like nerves and veins that are typically lost during a radical neck dissection are preserved during a modified radical neck dissection.
Hence, TTH noted that this surgery had to be done very meticulously and delicately in order to protect critical neck structures.
The patient who underwent this procedure – Ibrahim Anees noted that he had a number of reasons why TTH was his point of care.
“I selected Tree Top Hospital as my point of care for a number of reasons, including my confidence in Dr Rajesh and his experience in the field, At the age of 71, being diagnosed with cancer and being treated for it while having my family nearby has given me a great deal of satisfaction rather than having to travel abroad.”
The surgery team consisted of Dr Rajesh Arvind Valand, Consultant E.N.T. with the assistance of Dr Chandrashekhar Rawal, Consultant E.N.T. and a team of operation theatre nurses and an anaesthetic team.
