Police expand efforts to Male’ in search for missing men

Police have widened their search area to include Male’ City in the search for two men who went missing after setting off from Vilimale’ on a fuel barge last week.

Mohamed Nizam, 45, Manaaru, GDh. Thinadhoo; and Mohamed Liton, 35, Bangladesh, went missing after departing from Vilimale’ on a fuel barge on December 28. The barge was found adrift off Hulhule’ the next day. There was no sign of any of the men.

A police spokesperson told Sun on Monday that the Coast Guard and Marine Police were conducting a joint-operation at sea to find the missing men.

He said the police were also looking for the men in Male’.

“Police are also looking for them in Male’,” said the spokesperson.

The police did not specify the reason why they decided to expand their search to Male’.

Police have asked for anyone with information regarding their whereabouts to call the police hotline at 3322111 or the Serious and Organized Crime Department at 9911099.
