Siyam: Govt. must mitigate the impact of economic shocks

The government must strengthen efforts to mitigate the impact of economic shocks on the people, states Maldives Development Alliance (MDA)’s leader, Dh. Meedhoo MP Ahmed Siyam Mohamed.

He made the appeal in his address on occasion of the New Year 2023 on Sunday.

“I hope the year 2023 we are welcoming proves to be a bless and prosperous year for us, like the year 2022 we bid goodbye to yesterday was,” he said.

Siyam said that 2022 marked the year Maldives engaged in multiple efforts to overcome the Covid-19 pandemic and resume normal life.

We worked tirelessly to move forward, despite the many economic challenges the people faced, he said.

He appealed for everyone to work together to make 2023 a far more prosperous year than 2022 was.

“International financial institutes warn we may face economic challenges in 2023. I therefore call on state institutions to work to mitigate the impact of potential economic shocks on the people,” he said.

Siyam also called for greater efforts towards economic diversification and creating more economic opportunities.

“My sincere prayer is that the New Year 2023 is a happy and prosperous year for the Maldivian people in all ways,” he said.
