I’m proud of what we as Maldivians have achieved this past year in spite of the many challenges, states Maldivian President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
He made the remark in a tweet on Sunday wishing the Maldivian people a happy new year on behalf of himself and First Lady Fazna Ahmed
“…and I look forward to embrace the opportunities that the new year brings for us. I wish everyone a happy, healthy, and prosperous 2023!” he said.
In his message on the occasion of the New Year 2023, President Solih urged the public to prevent division, discord, strife, and any other acts that could jeopardize the peace and security of society.
He described the most significant achievement of 2022 as ensuring peace and stability in Maldives.
The administration made substantial progress in promoting human rights, social harmony, and justice and has ensured the equitable development and delivery of essential services, from which the people were reaping the benefits, he said.
Highlighting on the post-Covid economic recovery efforts of his administration, President Solih called on the public and private sectors to support the administration’s efforts to ensure more robust levels of economic growth this year.
He also stressed the need to explore new avenues to maximize revenue from the tourism and fishing industries and highlighted the role of youth in promoting gender equality and national progress.
President Solih described the new year as a time to promote democratic values and principles.
The best example political leaders and players can set for future generations is the promotion of our national interests, he said.
He called on the public and political parties to promote and protect the peace and harmony the Maldivian people value and cherish.
