Velana International Airport sees this year’s busiest day today

Velana International Airport (VIA) is seeing its busiest days of the year as the christmas and new year holidays prevails.

Wednesday, December 26th, however, will be recorded the day in 2022 which the airport sees the most number of international flight landings.

In this regard, 50 international flights are scheduled to land at the airport today, which will bring in approximately 7,500 tourists.

Commenting the matter, Maldives Airports Company Limited’s (MACL) Communications Manager Shamman Shakir said that operations at VIA are at an all-time busy today as flights and tourist arrivals to the Maldives increase significant during this season.

Statistics released by the Tourism Ministry shows that Maldives recorded the most number of tourist arrivals on a single day last Friday – being 7,085 tourists. On Saturday, Maldives saw 6,809 tourist arrivals whilst on Sunday the number stood at 6,473.

The winter season sees operations from a large number of international airlines; with many airlines operating specifically for the season. An increase of private jet arrivals are also simultaneously recorded during this period.
