President Solih constitutes National Mental Health Department

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Thursday constituted the National Mental Health Department. 

The new department was established under the Ministry of Health, by the discretion vested in the President by Section 116 of the Constitution of the Republic of Maldives.

According to a directive by the President’s Office, the number 489 should be used in all correspondence addressed to the new authority as per the numbering system for state agencies.

President's Office also noted that ensure mental health services are provided by health institutions under the government, as well as to strengthen the connection, provide technical assistance and gain the cooperation of independent individuals and NGOs that work in the mental health field.

Furthermore, the office noted that this department will also work towards identifying and eliminating various obstacles in providing services pertaining to mental health.
