Islamic University of Maldives (IUM) has begun a Quran memorization programme for the visually impaired.

The 15 participants of the programme were gifted laptops to provide ease in their studies.

The programme is held free of charge and will be conducted over five semesters.

Vice Chancellor of IUM Dr Ibrahim Zakariyya Moosa said that laptops were given to students as most of them were studying in different parts of the country, and it would be hard to move to Male’.

“The laptops loaned to the students will become their own when they complete the programme. Actually, the main target is for all the students to finish the course.”

The laptops used for this programme were funded by IUM, as well as the charity fund opened by the university.

In addition to this programme, there is also an Iman course ongoing at the university as well. There is also a class funded by an anonymous individual especially dedicated to visually impaired students.
