President Solih concludes visit to Faresmaathoda for Fishermen’s Day events

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, on Monday, concluded his two-day visit to GDh. Faresmaathodaa to attend the 42nd Fishermen's Day celebrations.

During this visit, the President held meetings with Faresmaathodaa Council and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) for extensive discussions about the socioeconomic development of the island.

He met with the fishing community of Faresmaathodaa on Sunday afternoon – where he inquired about their needs, and shared with them ongoing efforts by the administration to promote and develop the fisheries sector.

He also attended a fish-filleting contest and a Fisheries Expo organized by the Fisheries Ministry as part of Fishermen's Day activities. At the expo, the President launched new products introduced by the Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company Ltd. (MIFCO) and Horizon Fisheries.

Additionally, he also officiated the official function held to mark Fishermen’s Day. Delivering remarks at the function – President Solih reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to resolving the challenges facing the fishermen of Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll. He also described some of the administration's initiatives in this trajectory – revealing plans to dedicate 270-ton storage capacity and 120-tonne brine freezing capacity to the atoll next year.

 

Fishermen’s Day is annually marked on December 10th. Fisheries Ministry in collaboration with Faresmaathodaa Council organized a number of events on the island to mark the occasion.
