Man receives 20-year prison term for blackmail and rape of ex-girlfriend

The Criminal Court on Sunday sentenced a man to 20 years in prison for the blackmail and rape of a woman who he had previously been in a romantic relationship with.

Yoosuf Husam, Bluehouse, Sh. Milandhoo, was accused of taking the woman to a house, where he threatened to post pictures of her on Facebook if she failed to give in to his demands, and then raping her against her will.

The crime in question took place at approximately 11:00 pm on October 4, 2019.

The name of the victim along with the exact location where the crime took place was sealed by the court to protect the identity of the victim.

Husam was charged with rape and intimidation.

He pled ‘not guilty’ to both charges.

However, the court found that despite his denial, the testimony of the witnesses produced by the state was sufficient to establish his guilt on both charges.

He was sentenced to 15 years in prison for rape, and an additional five years for intimidation.
