JMC staff working on Hulhumale’ housing units concludes protest, returns to work

Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation, on Sunday, revealed that employees of India’s JMC Projects Limited working on the construction of social housing units in Hulhumale’ Phase II have concluded their protest, and returned to work.

Some media outlets reported that JMC’s employees were protesting over the company’s failure to pay two months’ salary. Refuting these reports – FDC’s Business Development and Corporation Affairs Manager Ahmed Shamool Abdulla told Sun that the employees had protested over a change to dollar withdrawal policies of State Bank of India (SBI).

“JMC has been regularly paying their wages. Their wages are paid in dollars. The protest was due to a change to the dollar withdrawal policy of the bank,” he detailed.

Shamool said that the employees have now concluded the protest, and returned to work.

JMC was contracted for the design, finance and construction of 2,000 social housing units in Hulhumale’ Phase II by FDC during last year’s March. FDC signed a similar contract with NBCC (India) Limited for the construction of another 2,000 housing units in Hulhumale’ back in February.

Shamool said that physical works on both projects have commenced.

“16 percent of JMC’s project is complete. 13.5 percent of NBCC’s project is complete. Some of the towers are expected to finish by next year. The project will reach full completion in 2024. Work is proceeding according to the timeline,” he detailed.
