Man who blackmailed married couple remanded for five days

A man who was arrested from B.Thulhaadhoo over blackmailing a married couple has been remanded for an additional five days.

The case was reported to Maldives Police Services on Friday.

However, as no action was taken against the suspect, some people of Thulhaadhoo on Sunday night held a protest, voicing their concerns.

The police arrested a 31-year-old Maldivian male in connection to the case on Sunday night, said the spokesperson.

The suspect in question had reportedly blackmailed a married couple using explicit videos.

So far, the Police have not given any details regarding the incident, apart from confirming that the investigation was ongoing.

Police have urged caution over increasing incidents of blackmail within the community.
