Walk held at Kulhudhuffushi calling to end violence against women

A walk was held at Kulhudhuffushi City on Friday calling to end violence against women.

‘Orange Walk’ was held to commemorate the ‘International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women’, marked across the work every November 25th.

The walk was organized Hope for Women, an NGO advocating against violence against women, in collaboration with stakeholders based in Kulhudhuffushi City.

In this regard, the walk saw participation from Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital, Kulhudhuffushi Women’s Development Committee, Gender Ministry and Haa Dhaalu Atoll branch of the Prosecutor General’s Office (PG Office).

The walk which commenced at 4:00pm this evening in front of Kulhudhuffushi Council, concluded at the same location at 18:00pm, after covering the main roads in the city.

Maldives Girl Guide Association, Maldives National Cadet Corps, Kulhudhuffushi branch of Maldives Red Crescent, Maldives Police Service, MNDF’s northern area command, school students, including little maids, and members of the general public participated in the walk, which saw over 1,000 people.

Commenting regarding the walk, Hope for Women’s Vice President Aishath Hussain Shihab told Sun that the organization holds such an event in one of the residential islands every year - whereas the organization selected Kulhudhuffushi this year.

Shihab said that the walk was held after a month's preparations.
