Alamgir sentenced to nine months in jail in additional six cases of homosexuality

Criminal Court has found Bangladeshi national, MD Alamgir, 26, guilty of homosexual relations in six further cases, sentencing him to additional nine months and 13 days in prison.

Alamgiri, who was found guilty for homosexual relations and porn production in previous cases, is presently serving a prison sentence of three years and four months.

Hearings on six additional cases on engaging in homosexuality against Alamgir proceeded at the Criminal Court on Thursday.

He had pled guilty, for all six charges. Therewith, he was found guilty by the court, and sentenced differently on each charge.

In this regard, he was sentenced to four months and 24 days in prison on the first charge; two months and 12 days on the second charge; one months and six days on the third charge; 18 days on the fourth charge; nine days on the fifth charge and four days on the sixth charge.

It is unclear why the sentences for each charge differ – as the details of the judgement has not been disclosed to the public due to the nature of the case.

Alamgir, who was found to have engaged in sexual relations with many men following leaked videos, have pled guilty to the charges filed against him to date. Some other men identified in the videos have also pled guilty and are serving their respective sentences at present. They include Ahmed Nazim Abdul Sattar, a prominent lawyer and younger brother of Parliament speaker, former president Mohamed Nasheed and Abdul Rahman Rafeeu, a former senior police officer from the Drug Enforcement Department (DED).
