The Speaker of Parliament, Mohamed Nasheed has met with the President of Sri Lanka, Ranil Wickremesinghe.
According to the Parliament, the meeting took place on Friday. However, they did not disclose any additional information regarding the meeting.
The Speaker of Parliament was appointed to coordinate foreign aid to help with Sri Lanka's economic crisis and has recently been appointed as the international climate advisor for Sri Lanka by President Ranil.
To overcome the current economic status, Sri Lanka has been implementing ways to lower financial costs and increase productivity. To lower financial costs they have stopped importing various goods and are promoting the agriculture sector as well as lowering Government expenses.
Due to the current economic crisis in Sri Lanka, they are financially and economically impoverished, leaving the government unable to fulfil the basic needs of citizens.
Sri Lanka has an external debt of 51 billion dollars. Sri Lanka has been unable to repay these loans since early 2022.
