HDC hosts study tour for Smart Com students

Housing Development Corporation (HDC) on Tuesday hosted a study tour for secondary school students who study Computer Science with its smart city brand ‘Smart Com’.

This was the first event held in celebration of the one-year anniversary of Open Access Network, HDC’s venture to make Hulhumale’ the first smart city in Maldives.

A total of 20 students participated in this tour. This includes students from all the secondary schools in Hulhumale’, namely – Rehendhi School, Huravee School, Ghazee School, and Brightway International.

The purpose of this program was to provide the opportunity for the students to be introduced to and experience the Smart Com brand and smart city products. It was also aimed at harboring students' interests in areas such as computer science and information technology.

HDC detailed that during the tour, students were shown a presentation on the work of the smart city, as well as the smart pole and bench in Hulhumale’ Central Park and telecom towers as well.

Additionally, information on the open-access network needed to make a smart city was given to the participants. They were shown students Smart Com’s operation center.

Students were taught how to connect ONT when giving internet to homes through fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) connections as well.
