Austrian Airlines commences direct flights to Maldives

The flag carrier of Austria, Austrian Airlines commenced direct flights to the Maldives on Tuesday.

The operations will be between Austria’s Vienna International Airport, and Maldives’ main international airport, Velana International Airport.

The airline will operate three flights per week, for which they will utilize Boeing 777-200s.

Austrian Airlines had carried out direct flights to the Maldives during last year’s winter season. The direct operations commenced by the airline today, is also in conjunction with the winter season. 

Maldives recorded over 17,000 tourist arrivals from Austria by the end of September as per statistics by the Tourism Ministry and Maldives Immigration. Commencement of direct flights by Austrian Airlines is expected to boost tourist arrivals from the European nation to the Maldives.
