“The days of bearing difficulties arising from the lack of a proper sewerage system are now behind. Moreover, the establishment of a water system and the official inauguration of the service today is another peace of mind. The difficulties borne by the old powerhouse over the past 18 years are now also in the past. I am very happy,” a resident had said.

Speaking the inauguration ceremony of the projects, President Solih said that establishment of basic infrastructure and services on the island would make Finey a more livable place. Expressing satisfaction with the positive changes being made to the island – he said he hoped they would enrich the lives of the island's residents.

He also underscored that new opportunities will be available to Finey residents as a result of the island’s proximity Hanimaadhoo International Airport and the recent establishment of high-speed ferry services under the Raajje Transport Link (RTL). He detailed these resources could be leveraged to further enhance local tourism and agriculture.

The old powerhouse at Finey was 18 years old. As it was located in a residential area, the loud noise and smoke emissions subjected the residents of the island to many difficulties. Meanwhile, the newly inaugurated powerhouse boasts a 570-kilowatt generator with a new power generation network.

Apart from this, two RO plants capable of producing 25-ton water per day, two 130-ton water tanks to store water and one 110-ton water tank to store rainwater were installed on the island under the project.

The water and sewerage system at Finey will be managed by Fenaka Corporation. Whilst water services commenced this August, the sewerage services commenced in September.

President Solih is scheduled to visit HA. Utheemu next in his ongoing official visit to four northern islands in Maldives. During this trip, the president will inaugurate finished government projects on those islands and inspect the progress of projects currently underway.
