The Ministries of Transport revealed that from Monday, September 12 onwards, Maldivian driver's licences will be accepted in Malaysia.

On August 12, the Ministries of Transport for Maldives and Malaysia signed a Mutual Recognition Agreement (MoU) to allow domestic driver licenses issued by either country in the other.

The MoU was signed by Maldivian Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Aishath Nahula and the Minister of Transport of Malaysia Dr Wee Ka Siong.

The Transport Ministry at the time said that this agreement will pave the way for drivers holding licences of both nations to drive motor vehicles in each other's countries with the driving licences issued by the respective countries.

Speaking at the agreement signing ceremony, Minister Nahula said that this would ease mobility for locals in Malaysia and vice versa.

She also stated that the agreement symbolizes the strength of the relationship between both countries.
