Alamgir case: Three more arrested, remanded in custody

Maldives Police Service, on Thursday, has announced the arrest of three additional persons on suspicions of engaging in homosexual relations with Bangladeshi national, Alamgir.

In this regard, Police said that three men were arrested under court orders on Tuesday in connection to homosexuality cases.

They detailed the suspects as a 45-year-old who was remanded in custody for five days, a 47-year-old who was remanded in custody for 14 days and a 49-year-old who was also remanded in custody for 14 days.

The identities of the suspects were not disclosed by the police.

A string of videos showing men engage in homosexual relations were leaked on social media.

The subject of many of the videos, Alamgiri, who admitted to engaging in sexual acts with multiple men, including several high-profile Maldivians, was found guilty and sentenced to seven months in prison in August.

Sun has learned that the arrestees of Tuesday are suspected of engaging in homosexual relations with Alamgiri.

The videos leaked online purportedly show Alamgir engaging in sexual relations with Ahmed Nazim Abdul Sattar, a prominent lawyer and younger brother of Parliament speaker, former president Mohamed Nasheed, former Nolhivaram MP Mohamed Nasheed (Colonel Nasheed), and Sergeant Abdul Rahman Rafeeu, a senior police officer from the Drug Enforcement Department (DED). All three await trial.
