Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC)’s Raajje Transport Link (RTL) mini bus service is set to launch in Male’ City on Monday.
According to MTCC, mini buses will travel on three routes; the Ameenee route, the Sosun route, and the Orchid route. 40 bus stops have been built in the city for the service.
The bus fare is MVR 7.
18 mini buses will transport commuters across Male’, eight with ramps and space for wheelchairs.
The bus for people with disabilities will have 20 seats, while other buses are all 22-seaters.
Up to 10 people can travel standing up on the buses.
MTCC states the mini buses will operate from 05:45 hours to 00:15 hours. Buses will come every 10 or 15 minutes.
The first two weeks will be a trial round, with commuters allowed to travel on the bus for free.
Once the two-week trial period is up, commuters will need to book QR tickets via RTL’s website or mobile app – RTL Travel.
RTL Travel app is available for free download from AppStore and PlayStore.
The mini bus service is free for school students in uniform, people above the age of 65 years, children under the age of three years, and people with disabilities.
People above the age of 65 years and children under the age of three years will need to show their national ID cards, while people with disabilities will need to show National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) card.
