Police have arrested four people under a court order on Sunday, in connection to an instance of group violence at R. Maakurathu on Saturday.

Maakurathu Council President Mohamed Rameez told Sun that the violent altercation took place on Saturday evening. He detailed that two people had sustained wounds to the head in the altercation, whilst another person sustained minor injuries.

“One had sustained a deep wound to the head. He was treated at Ungoofaaru Hospital and discharged. The other person who sustained a head wound was treated at the island’s health centre and discharged,” he had said.

Rameez said that cause of the altercation is unknown to the Council at present. He identified the injured victims as a 32-year-old Maldivian man and a 36-year-old Maldivian man.

Rameez appealed to Maarukatha’s residents to solve disputes without violence.

“I advise solving disputes by talking,” he added.
