Maldives Police Service on Sunday issued an official apology after announcing the search for a man who passed away a year ago.

A post was shared by Police announcing the search for 43-year-old local man Shakullah Ali (Fehivilla / Adh. Dhangethi) for an ongoing investigation, along with his picture. Notably, the case was reported in 2020.

This directed much criticism towards the Police for the error.

While some branded the authorities to have failed, others pointed out that this occurred because there were no proper systems in place.

Addressing the issue, Police said that it was due to an administrative error. Moreover, they apologized to the family of the deceased man as well as to the public.

Additionally, Police assured that changes will be made to the system in place in order to prevent the repetition of such errors in the future.
