Prison officers working on the frontlines of Maldives Correctional Service’s prisons have begun using body-worn cameras.
Prison officers began using body-worn cameras on Tuesday.
In this regard, body-worn cameras will be used in operations carried out by ESG officers in prisons.
Corrections said that use of body-worn camera would make prison officers more responsible and answerable to their actions. They also detailed that internal and external investigations of incidents occurring in prisons would be made easier with the existence of video and audio recordings of them.
Apart from this, Corrections said that the commencement of the use of body-work cameras is an important to ensure the safety of both detainees in prisons and prison officers.
The use of body-worn cameras as a free trial commenced under an agreement executed on February 17 with ‘Zeta Technologies’ – which import and distributes body-worn cameras produces American company.
Corrections said the body-worn cameras will be used permanently in the near future.
