Woman injured in gas cylinder explosion dies amidst treatment

A woman who was injured in a gas cylinder explosion at GDh. Rathafandhoo has passed away on early Sunday morning – whilst being treated in the hospital.

The victim of the gas cylinder explosion on last Thursday was identified as a resident of Rathafandhoo, Aminath Abdul Hameed, 53.

Rathafandhoo Council President Mohamed Abdulla told Sun that Aminath had passed away on early Sunday morning whilst being treated for injuries at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in the Maldivian capital.

The incident occurred unknowingly trying to turn the stove in midst of a gas leak – resulting in the body immediately catching on fire. Mohamed said that over 50 percent of Aminath’s body was burned in the accident.

Aminath was first treated at Rathafandhoo Health Centre for her injuries following the accident. She was brought to Male’ City for further treatment on Thursday evening.
