Parliament, on Thursday, has given their approval for the appointment of Abdul Ghafoor Mohamed currently serving as Foreign Ministry’s Ambassador at Large as the Ambassador of the Maldives to the United States (US).
Foreign Relations Committee of the Parliament’s report formulated following their review of the President’s nominees to be appointed as Maldivian Ambassador to US was presented to the floor at today’s parliamentary sitting.
The report stated that Abdul Ghafoor’s appointment was recommended. The Committee had interviewed Ghafoor in the course of their review as well.
Greenlighting the report – the appointment of Ghafoor was approved by the unanimous votes of 46 parliamentarians in attendance.
Abdul Ghafoor has previously served as the Foreign Secretary as well. During former President Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom’s administration – he also filled the post of the Permanent Ambassador of the Maldives to the United Nations.
