Man who entered FCPD with a knife jailed for six months

Criminal Court of the Maldives.

Criminal Court, on Wednesday, has sentenced a man who entered Maldives Police Service’s Family and Children Protection Department’s (FCPD) station with a knife has been sentenced to six months in jail.

Ibrahim Nashid, M. Love Nest, was charged with possession of a dangerous weapon in a public space without a substantial reason in connection to the case.

The charge against Nashid read that he had entered FCPD with a knife at approximately 9:00pm on last year’s January 11. It was detailed that the knife’s blade measures in five inches.

Responding to the charge – Nashid said that the knife he was in possession at the time was used by him to self-harm. He also stated that he is a patient seeking treatment for a mental illness.

Since Nashid had admitted to crime, and cooperated in the trial – Criminal Court’s Chief Judge Ahmed Shakeel who was presiding over the case had concluded to give him a lighter punishment. In this regard, he was sentenced to six months in jail.
