Parliament Speaker, former President Mohamed Nasheed refused to answer many of the questions reporters asked during his press conference Monday.
During the press conference at the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) headquarters Monday morning, reporters questioned Nasheed regarding the many of the unexplained things that have taken place in the political arena over the last couple of weeks.
On July 29, Nasheed claimed on a Whatsapp group of MDP national council members that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih had an affair with a young woman, and that he had four photos to prove it.
When asked about the validity of his claims, Nasheed said such questions were outside the scope of the press conference.
“I have a lot of photos. President Solih and I grew up together. We have photos both together and separately. You’ll see how many photos I have when you see the album,” he said.
Nasheed said the press had reported his comments erroneously, but did not specify what the error was.
Nasheed also refused to answer questions regarding the recent theft of his phone from a restaurant in UK.
He also refused to answer questions regarding whether his comments that he regretted working against Economic Minister Fayyaz Ismail and blaming South Henveiru MP Hussain Shaheem (Andhun Hussain) for his previous actions was politically motivated.
Nasheed also refused to answer additional questions, including a question regarding the death penalty, stating that it fell outside the scope of the press conference.
