President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, on Sunday, has urged all students to face the new academic year with enthusiasm and a fresh resolve for success.
He had made the remark whilst speaking at a special assembly held at Aminiyya School on Sunday morning to mark the beginning of the new Academic Year 2022-2023.
Speaking at the ceremony, President Solih outlined that attending school entails learning, instilling good behavior, and becoming healthy and responsible. He also urged students to help one another in school to ensure that it is a happy environment for all of them.
“Then all you children will leave the school much happier and peacefully than you enter the school,” he added.
President Solih also advised students to be mindful of two essential things in light of the country’s current state and the world; environmental protection and economizing. In this regard, he stressed that contributing to environmental protection and promoting economizing are principles every student should strive to instill in themselves from an early age.
Speaking further, President Solih said that the administration is leading many initiatives to build infrastructure and increase teacher education and technical development opportunities.
He added that he hopes the initiatives spark interest in more people to join the education sector and facilitate the hiring of educated and skilled teachers – which would ultimately help achieve the administration’s goal of building generations of well-educated and productive youth.
Teaching resumed at 217 schools across Maldives today, with over 92,000 students. Out of these students – 7 ,000 would attend 217 public schools staffed with over 8,300 teachers.
This is the first time the academic year is commencing mid-year in the Maldives since the change from beginning of the year to mid-year in last year.
