Special constabulary service launches in Male’

The special constabulary service, an initiative of Male’ City Council and Maldives Police Service to monitor Male’ City and suburban Vilimale’, has been launched.

Male’ City Council said the service began on Monday upon conclusion of orientation sessions. The last session was held at the council’s media center Sunday.

40 police officers will be involved in providing special constabulary service in Male’.

The police official in charge of the service, Inspector Mohamed Luthfee said it had been an important service which had been discontinued for various reasons.

Luthfee said the initiative taken by the city council to re-start the service provided a huge convenience to both the police and the general public.

The special constabulary will inspect properties in Male’ and take action against parties in matters concerning public safety, such as construction sites that pose a danger to pedestrians and motorists.

The city council and police signed an agreement pertaining to the service on February 15, and inaugurated the service on July 19.
