Number of children admitted with COVID-19 decreases

Dr Ahmed Faisal from Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) revealed that the number of children hospitalized with Covid-19 has decreased.

On July 20th, the Pediatrician stated via Twitter that the number of children admitted with Covid has increased. He also said at the time that the children’s ward was full due to this.

Furthermore, he had noted that if the rates were maintained, children might have to be sent to Hulhumale’ Facility as well, and cautioned the public over it.

When Sun contacted him for an update on the situation, Dr Faisal said that the number of admissions has now decreased.

He stated that this could be due to many children travelling out of Male’ City for school holidays.

“The hospital has a limited number of rooms. The dedicated place is the facility. So at the time, it was decided that if the number of cases increase, they would be admitted to the facility. [Hospital rooms] were completely full at that time. But now it is good.”

Additionally, he revealed that when it recently peaked, there were seven children admitted at one time. However, there are only three children admitted with Covid at the moment.

Recently Maldives experienced a surge of cases where more adults were testing positive as well. The Health Protection Agency (HPA) had even released statements cautioning the public about it.
