Maldives recorded a 44 percent increase in customs revenue last June, compared to the same period last year.
The monthly statistics released by Maldives Customs Service on Sunday show Maldives generated MVR 394 million in customs revenue in June 2022 – a 44 percent increase compared to the MVR 274 million in customs revenue generated in June 2021.
Maldives imported MVR 5.2 billion in commodities in June 2022. The figure is a 78 percent increase compared to the MVR 2.9 billion in imports in June 2021.
22 percent of the commodities were imported from Oman.
TOP IMPORTING COUNTRIES:
Oman: MVR 1.1 billion (22 percent)
India: MVR 636 million (12 percent)
China: MVR 558 million (11 percent)
UAE: MVR 435 million (8 percent)
Malaysia: MVR 428 million (8 percent)
As global fuel prices continue to rise, Maldives imported MVR 1.3 billion in fuel in June 2022. The country also imported MVR 926 million in machineries, and MVR 367 million in food items.
Meanwhile, Maldives exported MVR 247 million in commodities in June 2022. The figure is a 60 percent increase compared to the MVR 154 million in exports in June 2021.
60 percent of the commodities were exported to Thailand.

Thailand: MVR 148 million (60 percent)
Germany: MVR 25 million (10 percent)
UK: MVR 19 million (8 percent)
India: MVR 8 million (3 percent)
France: MVR 7 million (3 percent)
The exports in June 2022 included MVR 140 million in frozen skipjack or stripe-bellied bonito, MVR 55 million in skipjack tuna, and MVR 8 million in frozen yellowfin tuna.
