The deadline to apply for the Bank of Maldives (BML) 'Fehi Project' will be up on July 20, 2022.

The project aims to plant 50,000 trees annually across the Maldives – for a period of five years. It is the eighth series of 12 high-impact monthly community initiatives to celebrate leading up to BML’s 40th anniversary in November 2022.

Under this project, five islands will be selected to receive 10,000 pants each year which will be sourced from local nurseries, to reforest and rejuvenate island land spaces that have been identified for greening.

The bank said that the newly announced project will help accelerate the much-needed establishment of healthy vegetation on islands while simultaneously creating a positive social impact on communities. They also underscored that reforestation will provide added benefits of preventing soil erosion, reducing temperatures, offsetting carbon emissions and ultimately a healthier climate.

‘BML Fehi Project’ is exclusively open to the island and city councils. The bank has instructed them to email applications.

Further details regarding the project will be available on BML's website.
