Speaker of the Parliament and former President Mohamed Nasheed on Saturday said that the current weather conditions will lead to even more debt.
Addressing the rough weather conditions via Twitter, Nasheed noted that over 200 houses were flooded with the rain and wave surges experienced on Friday.
He added that flooding was experienced in places such as hospitals, schools, and airports.
“About 90 percent of houses in Gdh. Madaveli – one of the most impacted islands was flooded. With global warming, deteriorating weather, and changes to weather, debts will increase.”
His comments come at a time when impacts of extreme weather are experienced across the country.
