High-speed ferry service to commence at Haa Alifu Atoll on Sunday

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has geared up to commence high-speed ferry service at Haa Alifu Atoll on upcoming Sunday.

The company detailed that five speedboats will be utilized to provide the service in Haa Alifu Atoll – all which departed to the atoll from Male’ City on Friday. The speedboats will be docking at the atoll sometime tomorrow, after which services will officially commence on Sunday.

‘Integrated National Public Ferry Network’ which aims to connect the Maldivian islands through a high-speed ferry network is one of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s electoral pledges.

The first phase of the ‘Integrated National Public Ferry Network’ aims to link 41 islands in the atolls; Haa Alifu, Haa Dhaalu and Shaviyani – referred to as Zone 1.

High-speed ferry service commenced at Haa Dhaalu Atoll on May, fare-free as a test round. The service officially commenced on June 12.

In connecting the islands of Haa Dhaalu Atoll, a total of four speedboats – each with the capacity of 50 passengers – are in operation.

MTCC stressed that the speedboats are designed in a manner that provides comfort and ease for passengers.

Respectively, the speedboats are air-conditioned and equipped with USB charging ports at every seat. All ferries have a restroom and a separate storing area for luggage. Passengers will be permitted one carry-on luggage in addition to their main luggage.
