Well Trading Pvt. Ltd. has begun work on demolishing the building in Male’ City which previously housed Jamaluddin School.
A tweet by Education Minister Dr. Aishath Ali shows the demolition work began on Thursday afternoon.
The old Jamaludding building is being demolished to construct a new building for Arabiyya School.
The Arabiyya School was built in 2011 and opened in 2013. While the building isn’t old, large cracks have formed in the walls, prompting questions over the structural integrity of the building and fear over safety of students.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih made the decision to allot the old Jamaluddin land to construct a new building for Arabiyya School back in December.
Well Trading was contracted to demolish the old Jamaluddin building in May.
Arabiyya School students are being temporarily accommodated at the MTCC Sawmill building, until the new building is done.
The old Jamaluddin building was most recently used for the Elections Commission’s elections center.
