With the addition of 15 new buses brought for Hulhumale’ Phase II operations – Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has increased its Raajje Transport Link (RTL) fleet to 46.

The service of the new buses was inaugurated by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih at a special ceremony held at Hulhumale’ Phase II on Wednesday night.

Following the addition of these 15 buses to its fleet – MTCC has decided to commence service at two new routes in Male’ area.  That is direct buses from Carnival Area and Hulhule’ to Hulhumale’ Phase II.

Apart from this, frequencies of direct buses from West Park area to Hulhumale’ Phase II will also be increased.

Buses will operate from Carnival area and West Park area starting from 5:30am till 23:00pm – with 20 minute intervals between two buses. During peak hours – the interval would be reduced to 15 minutes.

Meanwhile, there will be a one-hour interval between two buses in Hulhule’-Hulhumale’ Phase II route.

Speaking at tonight’s ceremony, MTCC’s Managing Director Ali Azim said that the new buses being brought into operation will cut down waiting time for service users at bus stops.

“Adequate number of buses required for this service has now been brought. Employees have been trained. The service is now ripe,” he had said.

When people began living in Hulhumale Phase II – one of their most pressing concerns was the lack of a proper transportation system to access the area.
